Bug Splatter Season: Get Them Off Before They Etch
Texas summer means three things: triple-digit heat, late evening drives, and a windshield-and-front-bumper full of bug splatter. That last one is more damaging than people realize.
Why bugs damage paint
Bug guts are acidic. When they hit hot paint and bake on, they don't just look bad — they actively eat into your clear coat. In Texas summer heat, bug splatter can permanently etch into paint in as little as 48 hours.
Once etched, the only fix is paint correction or repainting. Both are expensive. A 5-minute wash is the cheapest insurance you can buy.
Best practices for bug season
- Wash within 48 hours of any long highway drive in summer
- Don't try to scrub dried bugs off with a dry rag — you'll grind them into the paint
- Use a wash with bug prep treatment to soften them before the main wash
- Pay extra attention to your front bumper, hood leading edge, side mirrors, and windshield
Our bug treatment
Our Deluxe and Ultimate packages include Bug A'Salt removal — applied during the presoak cycle, before the brushes touch your vehicle. It softens and dissolves bug residue so it rinses off rather than getting ground into your paint. It's worth the upgrade in summer — way cheaper than paint correction in fall.
